Only Murders in the Building (2021)
One building, three unlikely friends, and a string of unsolved murders. Sounds like the setup for a must-watch mystery series… and, perhaps, a podcast? Only Murders in the Building follows the unexpected trio of retired actor Charles (Disney Legend Steve Martin), struggling director Oliver, (Martin Short) and young artist Mabel (Selena Gomez) who all share one common interest: true crime podcasts. After a suspicious death is uncovered in their apartment building, the three team up to get to the bottom of the mystery—sharing everything they find on their own whodunnit podcast.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988)
This groundbreaking blend of live-action and animated filmmaking presents a mystery like no other. The owner of Toontown, Marvin Acme, has been murdered. The main suspect? Sweet, fun-loving cartoon star Roger Rabbit (voiced by Charles Fleischer). Roger seeks the help of private eye (and overall Toon hater) Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), as Roger insists that he’s—you guessed it—been framed. The mismatched pair must act quickly to clear Roger’s name, as the terrifying Judge Doom (Christopher Lloyd) has a warrant for Roger’s arrest, a squad of devious weasels, and “dip”—the one thing in the world that can kill a Toon. The path to solving Marvin Acme’s murder isn’t smooth… but it can sometimes be very, very silly.

Haunted Mansion (2023)
Welcome, foolish mortals, to a most supernatural mystery. Inspired by the Disney Parks attraction of the same name, Haunted Mansion follows Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) and her son, Travis (Chase Dillon), as they try to get rid of the supernatural squatters haunting their new (and strangely affordable!) mansion in New Orleans. They enlist a crew of spiritual experts to unravel the murder and mayhem behind the mansion—but they must solve the most chilling challenge of them all: finding a way out this mysterious manor!

A Haunting in Venice (2023)
No one knows super sleuthing like Agatha Christie! The third in a series of adaptations of her iconic Poirot mysteries, A Haunting in Venice brings famed detective Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) to a séance in the City of Canals. While the palazzo hosting the séance is already allegedly haunted, the location soon gains a new ghost when one of the guests is murdered! Once again, it’s up to Poirot to save the day and find the culprit amongst a star-studded list of suspects, including Michelle Yeoh, Tina Fey, and more.

Coco (2017)
The biggest mystery in Miguel’s (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez) life is figuring out why his family detests music. All Miguel wants is to become a musician himself, but his family forbids it. While trying to prove his own musical heritage on Day of the Dead, Miguel accidentally enters the Land of the Dead. Before he returns to the living world, Miguel decides to once and for all solve the mystery of his family’s musical hatred, hoping to finally reverse their ban and follow his dreams. Soon, he discovers there’s more to the mystery than he could have ever imagined.

The Black Hole (1979)
In space, black holes are gravitational powerhouses, sucking in anything in their path. Except… the long-lost spaceship USS Cygnus, which floats nearby in seeming defiance of gravity’s power. Cygnus was lost for 20 years before the crew of USS Palomino stumble upon the seemingly abandoned craft. Soon, mysteries upon mysteries stack up when Palomino captain Dan Holland (Robert Forester), expedition leader Dr. Alex Durant (Anthony Perkins), and their crew discover the ship’s sole survivor: Dr. Hans Reinhardt (Maximillian Schell). According to him, the rest of the crew returned to Earth, and Reinhardt created robot drones to replace them and continue studying the nearby black hole. But the longer Holland, Durant, and the crew stay on Cygnus, the more suspicious Reinhardt’s story becomes.

Did The Bear sweep the 75th Annual Primetime Emmy^® Awards? Yes, chef!

For its breakout first season, FX and Hulu’s The Bear received 10 wins. FX won its first-ever Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in addition to individual wins for performers Jeremy Allen White (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series), and Ayo Edebiri (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series). Series creator Christopher Storer also won for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.

On Sunday, the Critics Choice Association announced the winners of the 2024 Critics Choice Awards. The Walt Disney Company received seven awards across five of its content brands and studios: 20th Century Studios, 20th Television, FX, Hulu, and Searchlight Pictures.

During the ceremony, Harrison Ford was also honored with the Career Achievement Award. He has starred in many of the most successful and acclaimed films in history, including Lucasfilm’s Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. He will next be seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World, opening in theaters on February 14, 2025.

Awards season is in full swing!

Earlier today, Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani announced the nominations for the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards^® via Instagram Live. The nominees for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles were announced by Jason George and Woody Schultz, with an introduction by SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher.

The Walt Disney Company received 16 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations across its content brands and studios, including 20th Television, ABC, ABC Signature, Disney+, FX, Hulu, Lucasfilm Ltd., Marvel Studios, National Geographic, and Searchlight Pictures. Breaking news from a galaxy far, far away...

Lucasfilm just announced that the Mandalorian and Grogu—stars of the hit Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian—are embarking on a new adventure by heading to the big screen. Directed by Disney Legend Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni, this new chapter in the Mandalorian and Grogu's journey will go into production in 2024.

"I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that [Disney Legend] George Lucas created," Favreau said. "The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting."

Kennedy added, "Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen."

The new film will lead Lucasfilm's ongoing feature-development slate including projects helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Filoni, among others in the works. Filoni is also currently developing the second season of the popular Disney+ series, Ahsoka.

Get ready for one killer drop when all five episodes of Marvel Studios' Echo debut simultaneously on Tuesday, January 9, only on Disney+ and Hulu. The series spotlights Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) as Wilson Fisk's (Vincent D'Onofrio) criminal empire pursues her. When the journey brings her back home, she must confront both her family and her legacy.

"One of the most interesting aspects about the character is the fact that she's a villain in Hawkeye, right?" director and executive producer Sydney Freeland said during the virtual Echo press conference in December 2023. "But once you start pulling on that thread, you look at where she comes from. This is a Deaf, indigenous, amputee girl from Oklahoma. How the hell does she end up being one of the top-ranking lieutenants in Kingpin's army?"

Getting into Maya's headspace was easy for Cox, who made her MCU debut in the 2021 miniseries Hawkeye. "We both have childhood trauma," Cox explained. "For example, I am an amputee. I went through many different kinds of surgeries as a child, and that made me a warrior, in a sense. Maya [endured] the death of her mother and all of these tragic events that happened in her life. We both have different traumatic experiences. That makes us similar in a way, because we're both warriors, and we're both tough, and we're both badass."

Intended for mature audiences, the series shows a gritter side of the MCU. "The goal was never to try to turn her into, like, Captain America," Freeland said. In fact, she added, Marvel Studios executives encouraged her to "lean into" Maya's journey post-Hawkeye. "The tone and the visual style came from the story and the circumstances of the character."

As Maya will quickly learn, no bad deed goes unpunished. After their confrontation in the Hawkeye finale, Maya assumed she'd seen the last of Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin—but he's got unfinished business with her. "Without [good] writing, I can't really do much other than show up," said D'Onofrio, who will reprise his role in the upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again. "The writing is there, so it gives me the opportunity to bring the character forward."

While hiding out at home, Maya reunites with several family members she hasn't seen in years, from uncle Henry (Chaske Spencer) to cousin Bonnie (Devery Jacobs). "I always looked at [Henry] as a touchstone between Maya's past and her present," Spencer said, adding, "He's just a regular guy thrown into a very unique situation." Meanwhile, Bonnie gives viewers "a glimpse of who Maya might have been had she not been pulled away to New York," Jacobs said. Despite time and distance, there's a rich "history" between them that is undeniable, she added: "Even though they're cousins, it's almost like they're sisters."

With fans about to learn more about who Maya was and how that informed who she is, D'Onofrio can't wait for fans to see all that Cox brings to her role. "It takes talent, it takes guts, and that girl carried the show like a pro," he said. "There's nothing you can say, really, other than she's just extremely impressive." Spencer shared that sentiment, saying, "Working with Alaqua was phenomenal... I think the audience is going to be very impressed. I learned a lot from working with her, and that's what I love about this job. You get to work with some interesting, talented people, and at the end of the day, you create something special to give the audience. They are going to be very happy with the results."
